Record $340 Million Ticket Sold in Oregon!

Record $340 Million Ticket Sold in Oregon!
The small town of Jacksonville (population 1,955) located in southwest Oregon lays claim to having sold the single winning ticket for the record breaking $340 million Powerball jackpot. The ticket was sold at one of only two Powerball retailers in the city: Ray's Food Place or the Jacksonville Tavern. No one has stepped forward yet to claim the prize, but when they do they will have to decide on the 29-year, 30-payment annuity, or the cash option worth $164,410,058. The winner will have 60 days after their ticket is validated to make that decision.

Steve and Carolyn West said they bought $40 in tickets for Wednesday's drawing and whooped for joy when they checked the numbers.

The Medford (Ore.) Mail Tribune said the couple's teenagers let news of their good fortune slip at school Thursday, but Steve West said he wants to talk to a lawyer before he says anymore.

"I want to leave it vague," West told the newspaper. "There's a lot of scary things that I've heard. We're trying to be as careful as possible."

a US Senator hits 5 of 5 in the Powerball lotto

Sen. Gregg wins $853,000 in Powerball
'I don't plan to quit my job'

"Even senators can be lucky," he told reporters outside the D.C. Lottery claims center, where he picked up his check.

The Republican from New Hampshire -- who chairs the Budget Committee and who has a reputation as a strict fiscal conservative -- said his wife is currently remodeling their home and already has plans for the new money.

"She's already told me, 'Don't spend it. I've already got plans.'"

He said he bought about $20 of tickets on Monday at a D.C. Citgo gas station as he headed from Baltimore to Washington for a Senate vote.

"I don't plan to quit my job," he said with a smile.

He will owe 25 percent in federal taxes on the $853,492. New Hampshire doesn't have state income taxes and so he will get to keep the rest.

Gregg already is a millionaire, according to personal financial records that senators are required to file annually.

His latest filing, which documents his financial records for the calendar year of 2004, shows that Gregg has assets between $2,697,000 and $9,430,000, mostly in an extensive stock and real estate portfolio.

After hearing the lottery news, Sen. Kent Conrad, D-North Dakota, the top Democrat on the Budget Committee, quipped the money should be used to pay down the federal deficit.

"We'll take it all," he said.

Gregg was one of 49 winners of the runner-up cash award in a drawing that also earned one lucky winner from Oregon $340 million.

The Gregg family was in the news for less happy reasons two years ago when two men entered their McLean, Virginia, home and abducted Gregg's wife, Kathleen. She was driven to a nearby ATM where she gave the knife-wielding robbers money before escaping from them.

$93.4M Winner Comes Forward!
A master sergeant assigned to the 58th Training Squadron at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico has claimed a $93.4 million Powerball jackpot. John San Cartier correctly matched all six numbers drawn on August 10. San chose the $52.2 million lump-sum option. After federal withholding taxes of 25 percent and state withholding taxes of six percent, he will receive a one-time wire transfer of approximately $36 million. The winning numbers were 13-31-36-38-49 and the Powerball was 2.

Powerball players trek to store that sold previous record winning ticket

Powerball players trek to store that sold previous record winning ticket
HURRICANE, W.Va. -- With a $340 million Powerball prize up for grabs Wednesday, people showed up at the convenience store that sold the winning ticket for the multistate game's previous record jackpot, hoping lightning can strike twice in the same place.

The pilgrimage to C&L Super Serve in Hurricane in south central West Virginia began in earnest after the jackpot grew past $200 million. With Wednesday's drawing offering a record Powerball prize and the second-richest lottery jackpot in U.S. history, sales have only increased.

"They definitely think the bigger the jackpot, the more chance they'll have to win," manager Andi Perrine said.

Arizona winner shares Powerball tips

Arizona winner shares Powerball tips

As the Powerball moves into the stratosphere Wednesday, hopeful winners may consider the example of Tim Sindel, who won a $10 million Powerball share in December.

Upon his win he left his job mowing the lawns of a golf course in Phoenix. Now that he owns a comfortable home overlooking a golf course in Payson, he can still take time to savor a new-mown lawn.

As scores of people line up at lottery counters across the Valley and country, Powerball officials estimate that Wednesday's jackpot will exceed $340 million. The jackpot is the second largest in lottery history. advertisement

You could soon be a multi-millionaire.

You could soon be a multi-millionaire. The Powerball jackpot is expected to reach $350 million by Wednesday night's drawing.

You can't play powerball in Nevada, but you can buy a ticket just 45 minutes outside of Las Vegas. Powerball is played in Arizona. The closest place to get a ticket is in Kingman at a place called Rose's Den.

Right now the Powerball jackpot is $340-million, but that number keeps climbing. If you win and take the lump sum cash amount, you could clear more than $164-million.

nine ways to win in Powerball lottery

There are nine ways to win in Powerball, return to your Powerball retailer or Lottery headquarters for validation of your tickets.

Match 5 Bonus Prize

Whenever the Powerball jackpot reaches a record level, the amount of the jackpot prize is limited to increases for each draw of no more than $25 million. The prize money collected in excess of the maximum $25 million increase, will be placed into the Match 5 Bonus prize pool and will accumulate until there is a jackpot winner. When there is a jackpot winner, the Match 5 Bonus prize pool will be divided equally among all winners of the Match 5 prize. The prize will be paid in one cash lump sum.

The Match 5 Bonus prize is in addition to any Power Play prizes that may be won. The Match 5 Bonus prize is not multiplied. A Match 5 winner who also played the Power Play option will win the original $200,000, the amount paid under the Power Play multiplier option, and the new Match 5 Bonus effective bonus prize. Consider the following scenario: A player matches the five white numbers, another player hits the jackpot by matching all five white numbers plus the red Powerball, MUSL draws the Power Play number "4", and there is $385,000 available for each Match 5 winner as an additional Match 5 Bonus prize for the drawing. This player would then win $200,000 (the original Match 5 prize) + $600,000 (the extra monies created from the Power Play) + $385,000 (the actual Match 5 Bonus) for a total of $1,185,000. Put another way, the player has his $200,000 prize multiplied by 4, and then he also receives the additional $385,000 Match 5 Bonus prize.

Although it is unlikely, it is possible that no Match 5 winner will exist for a drawing where the jackpot is won and in where a Match 5 Bonus Prize pools exists. In this case, the Match 5 Bonus prize pool will be paid out to the Match 4+1 winners.

new Prize Pool Match 5 only

Something Wonderful is Going to Happen!

Match 5 BONUS Prize Pool.
The Powerball Jackpot is moving past its previous record jackpot ($315 million). That means that a new prize pool is being created. It is time to Share the Winnings. For the rest of this run, the jackpot will be increased by no more than $25 million per draw. Any money over that amount will go to the new BONUS prize pool and it will build until there is a jackpot winner. This is almost like two jackpot pools - except that this pool gets paid to everyone who matches five white ball numbers. Now, if you match 5 white balls, and there is a jackpot winner for that draw, you get an equal share in the prize pool shown here. This prize pool payment is on top of any regular Match 5 prize or any Power Play multiplier you win and does not change those amounts. How do you enter to win this prize? Don't worry, it's automatic. Just stop by to pick up your Match 5 prize and we'll give you the extra cash.
