Powerball rolls over to $86 million
POWERBALL JACKPOT LEAPS TO $86 MILLION;$1 MILLION POWER PLAY PRIZE WON!
7/13/2006
(Powerball) Even though the grand prize was not hit Wednesday evening, Powerball paid off BIG in multiple ways. One lucky ticket won a $1 million prize with the Power Play option in Pennsylvania! In addition, four other lucky tickets won $200,000 for matching 5 white ball numbers in the states of Arizona Powerball (1), Iowa Powerball (1), Kentucky Powerball (1), and West Virginia Powerball (1).
The jackpot for the Saturday, July 15th drawing will be $86 million with the cash option at $38.8 million.
The numbers drawn Wednesday evening were 18, 19, 30, 31, 33, and the Powerball was 15. The Power Play multiplier was 5.
Sixteen tickets matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $10,000. Four additional players of that prize level wisely purchased the Power Play and had their prize multiplied by 5 for a $50,000 cash win! A total of 472,858 players across the nation won more than $5.8 million in prizes playing America’s favorite game.
More than 86,000 winning Powerball players multiplied their prize by 5 Wednesday. They were able to do that by purchasing the Power Play option for $1. With Power Play you multiply your Powerball winnings from 2-5 times, except for the jackpot. At the beginning of each drawing a wheel is spun to select that night’s multiplier.
Players should carefully check their tickets after every draw. Even if there are no jackpot winners there are always tens of thousands of winners at other prize levels.
Players purchased more than $21 million in Powerball tickets between Sunday and Wednesday night.
The lotteries sold $2.8 billion in Powerball tickets in fiscal year 2006. That translates into over $800 million for worthwhile state projects.
Powerball is now played in 29 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

9 Delphi coworkers win Hoosier Lotto jackpot on their factory pool’s final drawing!
Nine Delphi coworkers win Hoosier Lotto jackpot on their factory pool’s final drawing!!
INDIANAPOLIS – Some may call it fate, irony or destiny, but the nine Delphi coworkers who split a $9 million Hoosier Lotto jackpot simply call it great timing. The nine men, eight of whom were faced with the decision of retiring or transferring by June 30, 2006 after Delphi announced plans to close its Anderson plant, were part of a factory pool that faithfully played Hoosier Lotto dating back to its inaugural drawing (then known as Lotto Cash) on May 5, 1990. Around that date, Dick Quinn purchased the group’s first tickets and on July 1, 2006 he would purchase the group’s last tickets, one of which would turn out to be the windfall they had waited for all these years.
“After 16 years we were going to have to stop playing because everybody here was being forced to either transfer or retire – so this really was our last chance,” said Quinn. “We had matched 5 of 6 once and 4 of 6 quite a few times, but this is just unbelievable.
Quinn had managed the pool over the past 16 years, buying $50 worth of tickets per week plus as many extra tickets he could purchase with the group’s winnings from the previous week. It would be one of these extra purchases that matched all six numbers for the July 1 Hoosier Lotto drawing. The men claimed their prize this afternoon at Hoosier Lottery Headquarters in Indianapolis, opting to take the cash option worth $3.7 million. Each winner received an equal share of $370,000 before taxes, except Quinn who received $740,000. Quinn had been paying an extra share each week for the last six months after another coworker opted out of the pool.
“Dick has been taking our money for years and never gave a cent of it back until this,” said coworker Nicholas Gray, who joked that many of his fellow pool members started to wonder if Dick was secretly keeping the money.
The group’s windfall made everyone’s ultimatum of retiring or transferring a little easier. Only one man, Ralph Flesher, who at 50 years old is the youngest in the group, chose to transfer and will continue working beyond January 1 of next year. Seven others have either retired or will retire when Anderson’s Delphi plant ceases operations at the end of the year. One group member, Jeff Fisher, who stayed in the pool after leaving Delphi several years ago, recently retired from General Motors in Indianapolis.
“You see folks on TV all the time winning these sort of prizes and you wonder what kind of people they are,” said coworker Richard Howard. “I can assure everyone that these are all a bunch of good guys who work hard and are wonderful people.”

Date: June 16, 2006
ATLANTA – With two weeks remaining in the fiscal year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation (GLC) today announced its annual sales have surpassed $3 BILLION for the first time in GLC history.
"Crossing the $3 billion mark in sales is a significant milestone for the Georgia Lottery and the citizens of Georgia, who benefit from every dollar we raise," said GLC President and CEO Margaret DeFrancisco. "As we approach the end of the fiscal year on such a strong note, we remain committed to our mission of maximizing dollars for the HOPE Scholarship and Prekindergarten Programs."
The Georgia Lottery's fiscal year 2006 spans from July 1, 2005 to June 30, 2006. GLC sales for fiscal year 2005 reached a then-record $2.92 billion.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $8.2 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 900,000 students have received HOPE Scholarships, and more than 700,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.

GENERAL PRESS INFORMATION
The Multi-State Lottery Association is a government-benefit, non-profit association entirely
owned and operated by the member lotteries. The association has a twelve member staff that
operates at the direction of the Board of Directors. The Board is comprised of the lottery
directors for each of the member lotteries. The current membership of 31 lotteries includes:
the
Arizona Lottery, Colorado Lottery, Connecticut Lottery Corporation, Washington D.C. Lottery &
Charitable Games, Delaware State Lottery, Idaho Lottery, Indiana (Hoosier) Lottery, Iowa
Lottery, Kansas Lottery, Kentucky Lottery Corporation, Louisiana lottery Corporation, Maine
State Lottery, Minnesota State Lottery, Missouri Lottery, Montana Lottery, Nebraska Lottery,
New Hampshire Lottery Commission, New Mexico Lottery Authority, North Carolina Education
Lottery, North Dakota Lottery, Oklahoma Lottery, Oregon Lottery, Pennsylvania Lottery, Rhode
Island Lottery, South Carolina Education Lottery, South Dakota Lottery, Tennessee Education
Lottery Corporation, US Virgin Islands Lottery, Vermont Lottery, West Virginia Lottery, and the
Wisconsin Lottery.
The association currently offers four lottery games: POWERBALL is sold through thirty
member lotteries; Hot Lotto is currently sold through nine members; Wild Card2 is sold
through four jurisdictions; and the newest MUSL game, 2by2 , is sold in three member
jurisdictions. Oklahoma began sales of Powerball on January 12, 2006. The newest MUSL
member, the North Carolina Education Lottery, will begin sales of Powerball in the spring of
2006.
All profits from the games are kept by the state that sells the ticket. The members share the cost
of operating the association based on their percentage of total sales. The association conducts
drawings, performs central game administration (including game development and research), and
manages central accounting and the purchase of government securities to fund annuitized prizes.
On September 16, 1987, the lottery directors of the District of Columbia, Iowa, Kansas, Oregon,
Rhode Island, and West Virginia formed the Multi-State Lottery Association. The Missouri
Lottery joined the association later that month. The original seven members offered a joint lotto
game call LOTTO*AMERICA 7/40® which began sales on February 13, 1988.
LOTTOAMERICA was replaced on April 19, 1992 by the now world famous POWERBALL .
The POWERBALL game was designed following research to meet the wishes of the players.
Players in all jurisdictions said virtually the same thing: Give me a chance at a big jackpot, but I
also want to win a significant smaller prize while I’m waiting to win the big one.” The size of a
significant smaller prize varied by player, but the POWERBALL game offers enough cash
prize levels ($3 to $200,000) to meet everyone’s wishes. The game has seen continued growth,
especially at the beginning jackpot levels. It is clear that the large jackpots attract the player’s
attention but the large number of winning experiences are what keeps the players coming back to
the game.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
There are 30 member lotteries currently selling the POWERBALL game to a population of
96.2 million with tickets being sold through over 58,000 terminals. The drawing show is
uplinked live to over 89 television stations every Wednesday and Saturday night at 10:59 p.m.
Eastern Time.
MUSL’s first game was LOTTO*AMERICA 7/40® which started sales on Wednesday,
February 3, 1988. The first draw was on Saturday, February 13, 1988. This game had a weekly
drawing on Saturday night. MUSL’s second game was LOTTO*AMERICA 6/54® with sales
starting on February 5, 1989. The first drawing was February 8, 1989. The original
POWERBALL game began sales on April 19, 1992. The first POWERBALL drawing was
on April 22, 1992.
After more than five years as America’s premier jackpot game, POWERBALL was updated
beginning with the drawing of November 5, 1997. In order to generate larger average jackpots,
the game changed from a 5 of 45 white ball plus 1 of 45 red ball game to a 5 of 49 plus 1 of 42

format. Low-tier prize levels were increased, the guaranteed starting jackpot was raised to $10
million, and players were offered the option of taking the jackpot as a lump sum cash payment.
In March 2001, a major product enhancement was designed for the POWERBALL product.
This Power Play feature allows a player to multiply their winnings of all set prizes (all prizes
except the jackpot prize) by a number randomly drawn in a wheel spin just before the
POWERBALL drawing. Power Play players who win any of the set prizes are guaranteed to
multiply their winnings by at least two. The Power Play wheel has 4 slots each of the numbers
2 thru 5 for a total of sixteen slots.
As the population base playing POWERBALL continued to increase with Pennsylvania
joining the association in June 2002 (12,281,054 pop.); South Carolina in October 2002
(4,012,012 pop.); and the US Virgin Islands lottery in November 2002 (108,612) the matrix was
again changed on October 6, 2002 by adding 4 additional balls to the white ball set. No
additional balls were added to the red balls with the resulting matrix becoming 5/53 + 1/42.
The continued success of the POWERBALL brand prompted four more states to join the
game: Vermont (7/1/03), North Dakota (3/25/04), Tennessee (4/19/04), and Maine (7/30/04).
With 29 members and a total population of 91,921,242 the matrix was again changed to insure
game performance starting with the drawing of August 31, 2005. Additional enhancements to
the game included: minimum jackpots starting at $15 million; the secondary prize raised to
$200,000; and the third prize increased to $10,000.
While no additional balls were added to the red Powerball set, two additional numbers were
added to the white balls resulting in a matrix of 5/55 + 1/42 as shown below.

South Carolina Poweerball Group Claims $1 Million Power Play Prize!
“Pay me the MONEY!” is what the group of Upstate dispatchers chanted at the South Carolina Education Lottery’s (SCEL) Columbia Claims Center late Thursday, June 8. Four of the 10-member group drove down from the Upstate to claim their share of the $1 million match five Power Play win in the Wednesday, June 7, Powerball drawing. The group of ten pitches-in a few dollars on occasion to vie for the big jackpot. “Everybody picks their own numbers except for one person,” said Thomas Whitt, of Spartanburg. “She does the quick pick.”
The white numbers for that Powerball drawing were: 4, 10, 20, 26, and 40. The Powerball ® was 8 and the PowerPlay® number was 5. To win the match 5 cash prize of $200,000, a player must match all five white balls. The group paid the extra dollar for the PowerPlay® option, which multiplies any non-jackpot prize by the number selected from 2-5 . Because the PowerPlay ® number drawn was 5, their $200,000 prize became $1 million.
Out of all of the numbers the group selected, Whitt’s numbers won. “I just use the interstate numbers,” he said. “I guess all my life anytime I needed to pick numbers, I would use the interstate numbers. And it seems like they do come up a lot.”
The four group members stated they will use their winnings to pay off some bills.
