$62.8 MILLION POWERBALL JACKPOT WON

$62.8 MILLION POWERBALL JACKPOT WON!

5/24/2007 (Powerball) One lucky ticket in New Mexico matched all 6 numbers Wednesday evening and walked away with the $62.8 million jackpot. The holder of the winning tickets will now have to decide to either take the 29-year, 30-installment annuity, or take the one time cash “lump sum” amount of $29,450,223.

There were a total of 453,848 additional winning tickets in America’s Game Wednesday evening. Those winners won prizes totaling $6,015,268.

The numbers drawn were 3, 11, 24, 36, 38 and the Powerball was 6. The Power Play multiplier was 4.

Six tickets correctly matched the 5 white numbers and won $200,000. These tickets were sold in Connecticut (1), Iowa (1), Indiana (2), Kentucky (1), and Louisiana (1). One additional ticket in South Carolina not only matched all 5 white numbers, but also had the Power Play option multiplying the normal $200,000 prize by 4 for a total win of $800,000.

Thirty tickets matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $10,000. Eight additional players not only matched 4+1, but also purchased the Power Play option for a total win of $40,000!

A total of 91,531 winning Powerball plays were multiplied by 4 Wednesday evening. Winners were able to do so by purchasing the Power Play option for one dollar. With Power Play you can multiply your winnings, except for the jackpot, from 2 to 5 times. At the beginning of each drawing a wheel is spun to select that night’s multiplier.

Players purchased more than $19 million in tickets between Sunday and Wednesday night.

The jackpot for Saturday, May 26th will be $15 million.

The lotteries sold more than $2.8 billion in Powerball tickets in FY06. That translates into more than $825 million for worthwhile state projects.

Powerball is now played in 29 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
