Connecticut Powerball jackpot won

October 18, 2007 A blushing and very composed John Lorusso of Eastford arrived at CT Lottery headquarters in New Britain today to claim his $15 million Powerball jackpot prize from October 3, 2007—the only ticket holder nationwide to match the six numbers drawn on that date. The winning Powerball numbers were 2 – 4 – 14 – 15 – 28. The Powerball was 23, and the PowerPlay Multiplier was 4.
Although winners have sixty days to decide whether to select a one-time cash lump sum or the 29-year, 30-installment annuity, Lorusso, a 43-year old co-owner of a commercial printing company, selected the cash lump sum payout of $4,924,953 (prize value after taxes). "Never in my life did I expect to have such a life changing event. It's an opportunity for just a whole different set of circumstances," Lorusso said.
Lorusso’s winning "Quick Pick" ticket was sold at Squaw Hollow Xtra Mart, 9 Nott Highway at the junction of Route 44 and 74 in Ashford. For selling the jackpot winning ticket Xtra Mart will receive a $100,000 bonus check from the CT Lottery.
There were a total of 12,499 winning tickets sold statewide for that drawing whose values ranged from $3 to $15 million each. Overall odds of winning a Powerball prize are 1:36. The odds of matching the jackpot prize are 1 in 146.1 million.
This is the fifth Powerball jackpot won on a ticket sold in Connecticut since the CT Lottery joined the multi-state game in 1995. The last jackpot prize in Connecticut occurred in June 2005 when a Seymour electronics salesman won $59.5 million.
