Powerball Lotto Jackpot Grows to $61 Million; Two $600,000 Power Play Prizes Won!
9/23/2007

(Powerball) The jackpot in America’s favorite lottery game continues to grow. Even though the grand prize was not awarded Saturday evening, 2 lucky tickets in South Carolina (1) and Tennessee (1) matched all 5 white numbers with the Power Play and won $600,000 cash each! Two other winners matched all 5 white numbers for $200,000 each. These tickets were purchased in Indiana (1), and Louisiana (1). In addition, 501,187 tickets across the nation won a total of $5,096,885 in prizes.

Because no one correctly matched all six numbers in Saturday’s drawing the jackpot will grow to an estimated $61 million!

The cash option for the Wednesday, September 26th drawing will be an estimated $28.2 million.

The numbers drawn Saturday night were 4, 9, 18, 43, 55 and the Powerball was 3. The Power Play multiplier was 3.

Other prizes won Saturday evening included twenty-four tickets that matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $10,000. Three additional tickets that won at this prize level also wisely purchased the Power Play and had the $10,000 winnings multiplied by 3 to $30,000!

A total of 101,872 winning Powerball tickets multiplied their prizes by 3 Saturday. Players were able to do that by purchasing the Power Play option for one dollar. With Power Play you multiply your Powerball winnings from 2 to 5 times, except for the jackpot. At the beginning of each drawing a wheel is spun to select that night’s multiplier.

Players purchased $20,848,853 in Powerball and Power Play tickets between Thursday and Saturday night.

The lotteries sold more than $2.5 billion in Powerball tickets in FY07. That translates into more than $725 million for worthwhile state projects.

Powerball is now played in 29 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
