Rhode Island was one of the founding members of the Multi-State Lottery Association which established the Lotto America game in 1987. This multi-state game became Powerball in 1992.
Rhode Island is one of twenty-nine states to offer Powerball®. As part of the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL), these member states offer the game that consistently reaches jackpots worth multi-million dollars.
PowerBall has become one of the most popular Lottery games due to its extremely high jackpot payouts. As of February 2006, the highest jackpot amount was $365 million, won on February 18, 2006.
With a starting jackpot of $15 million, if no winner is drawn, the jackpot continues to increase by no less than $5 million for each drawing until someone wins.
