Redmond Lottery Winner Wants To Give Back To Needy Children

OLYMPIA Sixty-six year old QFC bakery department employee Dorothy Leigh had a great day at work last week. At the end of a tiring shift at her Redmond store, she decided to do one more thing before she left for the day - check her Lottery ticket to see if she was a winner. Imagine her surprise when she saw that she was the $390,000 Cashpot winner in last Wednesday’s Hit 5 drawing!

I handed my ticket over to a co-worker so he could check them, Leigh said. “He looked at me and said, ‘Dorothy, you won! I’m so glad it happened to you, I can’t think of a person I’d rather it happen to!’ All I could say was that I was glad to be sitting down.

In addition to working at QFC, Leigh also works as a realtor. She has been working two jobs the past eight years to try to keep up with bills. She says that the win comes as a great relief and hopes it may give her some free time. She plans to spend the winnings on some of her life’s dreams.

I have always dreamed of helping a few World Vision children, Leigh said. It breaks my heart to see those children and I can’t think of a better way to spend my money.

What money is left after that she’d like to spend on what she’s always dreamed about for herself.

Being a realtor, it has always been my dream to build a beautiful house, Leigh said. “I’d love to have a house with a gallery wall, a grand piano, formal dining room and a larger family room. But if I can’t have all that I still want to help out my family members.

Leigh matched all five numbers in the August 8 Hit 5 drawing to win the $390,000 Cashpot prize. She matched numbers 04-07-14-17-33.
