Pennsylvania Cash 5 lotto now starts at $125,000

Effective Feb. 1 : LOTTERY’S CASH 5 STARTING JACKPOT INCREASING TO $125K

MIDDLETOWN,PA. The Pennsylvania Lottery will increase the starting jackpot of CASH 5, its longest-running jackpot game, from $100,000 to $125,000 beginning Feb. 1.

Loyal CASH 5 players have told us that they want higher jackpots, and increasing the starting jackpot to $125,000 will allow us to offer higher average jackpots without making drastic changes to the way the game is played,” said Lottery Executive Director Ed Trees.
The Lottery will increase the number of balls in the CASH 5 game matrix by four, from 39 to 43, which will allow the Lottery to increase the starting jackpot and offer higher overall jackpots. Players will select five numbers from 1 to 43.

For players who use play slips or purchase CASH 5 tickets, the current play slips featuring numbers 1 through 39 can be used through the Jan. 31 drawing. New play slips with the numbers 1 through 43 will be required for drawings on and after Feb. 1. New play slips will be distinguished by yellow shading showing Games A, C, and E.
In February, the Lottery will also conduct a buy five CASH 5 tickets, get one CASH 5 ticket free” promotion. Players will receive one free quick-pick CASH 5 ticket for the next available drawing with each block of five CASH 5 tickets purchased. The block of five tickets do not have to be quick picks; players may choose their own numbers and still receive the free quick-pick CASH 5 ticket. CASH 5 debuted in 1992 as a weekly drawing game with a minimum jackpot of $100,000, and it quickly became a player favorite. Over the past 16 years, the number of drawings increased to twice weekly in 1993; to three times a week in 1995; and to four times a week in 1996. It became a nightly game in 1998. CASH 5 is the longest-running jackpot game in Pennsylvania Lottery history.
