Virginia Retired Plumber Cleans Up With Six Winning Lotto Tickets

02/4/08 Virginia Retired Plumber Cleans Up With Six Winning Lotto Tickets

February 1, 2008
I never play one play. I always play multiple times with the same numbers.
That strategy worked for Thomas Zoby of Virginia Beach. He bought six tickets for the January 8, 2008, Virginia Lottery Cash 5 night drawing, all with the same five numbers – and they all won!
But there was one problem. When he looked up the winning numbers on the Virginia Lottery’s Web site www.valottery.com, he read them wrong and he thought he had not won. So the tickets just sat next to his computer until he happened to go back to the store where he purchased them, Indian Lakes Food Mart at 1196 Indian Lakes Blvd. in Virginia Beach.

The clerk said, ‘I think you’re the winner,’ Mr. Zoby recalled. So I went home and checked it again.
It’s a good thing he did. The six winning combinations were worth a cool $600,000. Those winning numbers were 1-4-13-14-26.
Cash 5 drawings are held daily at 1:59 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. The chances of winning the $100,000 top prize are 1 in 278,256.
