Pennsylvanian “Rich” becomes RICH with $1 Million Power Play Win!
Pennsylvanian “Rich” becomes RICH with $1 Million Power Play Win!
A Langhorne woman is one of Pennsylvania 's newest millionaires, having matched all five white balls in the April 22 Powerball drawing. Patricia Rich had 04-05-06-18-27 , but not the red Powerball, 24, to win $1 million, less 25 percent federal withholding. She was the only Match 5 winner in Pennsylvania for the drawing. Matching 5-of-5 white ball numbers without the red Powerball number – second prize in the Powerball game – is normally worth $200,000. However, in the April 22 Powerball drawing, players who purchased the PowerPlay option saw their winnings multiply five times, since five was the PowerPlay number randomly selected prior to that night's Powerball drawing.
Rich says she selected her Powerball ticket numbers using her children's and grandson's birthdates.

Letter from the Massachusetts State Lottery
Joseph C. Sullivan
Director of the Massachusetts State Lottery
LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Dear Friends and Colleagues:
Since our inception in 1971, the Massachusetts Lottery’s mission has been to support the cities and towns of the Commonwealth. I am pleased to report that almost 35 years later, we’ve continued to successfully meet that responsibility.
The Lottery posted its best year ever in Fiscal Year 2005. Record-high sales of $4.4 billion yielded hundreds of thousands of winners throughout Massachusetts.
Massachusetts State Lottery
While the Lottery awarded more than $3.2 billion to players last year - an average of $9 million every day - the biggest beneficiaries of our most successful year were the 351 cities and towns of Massachusetts. A record $936 million in Lottery revenues were returned to the Commonwealth for municipalities in FY05. At a time when local aid dollars are an increasingly vital resource for communities, the Lottery is proud to play such a significant role in supporting our cities and towns.
The Lottery is able to achieve our revenue goals by operating this very important public agency as a business enterprise, adhering to quality performance each and every day. Our administrative costs are lower than two percent of our overall gross revenues, establishing our state Lottery as the most efficient lottery in the United States.
With five regional offices, and a partnership with more than 7,500 licensed retail sales agents, the Massachusetts Lottery operates 24-hours a day, 365 days a year to ensure that our lottery is always working efficiently and effectively for our customers, as well as the taxpayers of our state.
We are proud of our accomplishments this past fiscal year and are forever mindful that with each new fiscal year additional goals and challenges lie ahead. Looking ahead to Fiscal Year 2006, we look forward to further improving upon operations, offering games of entertainment and value to our customers, maximizing revenues for cities and towns and continuing the tradition of success that is synonymous with the Massachusetts Lottery.
Sincerely,
Joseph C. Sullivan
Executive Director
