As last-minute holiday shopping heats up, so does the Mega Millions jackpot! The Friday, December 22, 2006 Mega Millions drawing brought out the winners this holiday season. A total of 477,042 tickets from coast to coast won Mega Millions prizes, including nine tickets that each won $250,000. However, no ticket matched all six numbers to win the estimated $50 million jackpot. That means the jackpot for the Tuesday, December 26, 2006 Mega Millions drawing grows to an estimated $60 million.

POWERBALL JACKPOT GOES TO $65 MILLION; $1 MILLION POWER PLAY PRIZE WON!

12/20/2006 (Powerball) Powerball will go to an estimated $65 million jackpot for Saturday night’s draw as the grand prize was not hit Wednesday evening. Even though the jackpot was not hit, one lucky ticket from Pennsylvania won $1 million cash by matching all 5 white numbers with the Power Play option! In addition, 6 tickets matched the 5 white numbers without Power Play and won $200,000.

The jackpot for the Saturday, December 23rd drawing will be $65 million with the cash option at $31.6 million.

The numbers drawn Wednesday evening were 1, 6, 14, 26, 34, and the Powerball was 34. The Power Play multiplier was 5.

Other winners Wednesday evening included 17 tickets that matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $10,000. Five additional winning tickets of that prize level also had the Power Play option that multiplied winnings by 5 for a total of $50,000 cash! An incredible 407,839 tickets across the nation won more than $5.9 million in prizes playing America’s favorite game.

A total of 76,487 winning Powerball players multiplied their prize by 5 Wednesday. They were able to do that by purchasing the Power Play option for $1. With Power Play you multiply your Powerball winnings from 2-5 times, except for the jackpot. At the beginning of each drawing a wheel is spun to select that night’s multiplier.

Players should carefully check their tickets after every draw. Even if there are no jackpot winners there are always tens of thousands of winners at other prize levels.

Players purchased more than $19.1 million in tickets between Sunday and Wednesday night.

The lotteries sold $2.8 billion in Powerball tickets in fiscal year 2006. That translates into over $800 million for worthwhile state projects.

Powerball is now played in 29 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
