TALLAHASSEE - On January 12, 2008, the Florida Lottery kicked off its 20th anniversary by hosting a series of community events throughout the state - most taking place at Florida Lottery district offices.
Lottery players were given the opportunity to win great prizes and receive
a free Florida Lottery 20th anniversary t-shirt, as well as a slice of
birthday cake.
Since inception, the Florida Lottery has contributed more than
$18 billion to the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund (EETF). Over the past
20 years, more than 1,045 lottery players have become millionaires and millions more have won smaller prizes, with prize payments totaling more than $26.5 billion as of December 31, 2007.
Florida Lottery ticket sales began on January 12, 1988 with
the first $1 Scratch-Off game, MILLIONAIRE. The game was an instant hit,
with sales exceeding $95 million in the first week alone - setting a lottery
industry record. On April 29, 1988, FLORIDA LOTTO and CASH 3 launched,
becoming the Florida Lottery's first On-line games.
Twenty years later, the Lottery has offered five core On-line games (FLORIDA LOTTO, MEGA MONEY™, FANTASY 5®, PLAY 4™ and CASH 3), more than 600 Scratch-Off games, and more than 30 special promotions and limited-time games.
Since the launch of MILLIONAIRE, Florida Lottery ticket sales have
remained strong. In 1990, two years after sales began, the Florida Lottery became a multi-billion-dollar-a-year entity with annual sales surpassing the $2 billion mark. ATLANTA A tire store owner is driving off with a lucky Georgia Lottery win. James Orr of Acworth was randomly selected in the Dec. 21 Georgia's Millionaire Club drawing, winning $5,000 and a chance at $10 million.
Orr, 51, received a phone call with the exciting news.
"I usually watch the drawings, but I was running late," he explained. "My brother in south Georgia saw it and called me."

Tom Allesio and Dawn Hile, a brother and sister from Tulsa, Oklahoma, started 2008 in style by claiming their $200,000 winning ticket from the Jan. 2 Powerball drawing.
I feel really blessed, Hile said.
She plans to save some of the money for retirement, and will help her daughter pay for school. Allesio said he will pay-off his house.
Tom and Toni have played the Lottery together every drawing for about five years, using the same numbers each time. They played in Kansas before the Lottery launched in Oklahoma.
The winning ticket was purchased at Reasor’s, a grocery store located at 7114 S. Sheridan Rd. in Tulsa.
This doesn’t change our lives, we are simple people, Hile said. We are glad Oklahoma got Powerball.

Powerball: One lucky ticket in Louisiana matched all 6 numbers Wednesday evening and walked away with the $97 million jackpot. The holder of the winning ticket will now have to decide to either take the 29-year, 30-installment annuity, or take the one time cash “lump sum” amount of $48,478,863.

Schenectady, NY Sixty-four-year-old Ronald McKay of Pittsford has seen his
lifelong dream of financial independence come true. The entrepreneur real
estate agent and owner of the Pittsford-based Blanket Real Estate Company, Inc.,
realized his dream upon winning the $1,000,000 top prize on the
Liberty’s Millions instant game from the New York Lottery. McKay will
receive his prize in payments of $50,000 a year for 20 years, less required
tax withholdings.
It’s a good feeling, said McKay. I can retire and still take care of my
familyit’s just a really good feeling.
McKay said he and his wife, Irene, have four children, three college tuitions
and one grandchild on the way so this will certainly help on a number of fronts.
An avid Lottery player, McKay has been trying his luck on various Lottery games for 40 years, winning as much as $1,000 here and there.
I knew right away this one was different, he said. I had to ask (my wife) to check the ticket because I just couldn’t believe my own eyes.
McKay purchased his winning Liberty’s Millions ticket on November 26, 2007 at the A-Plus Mini Mart on South Washington St. in East Rochester. He claimed his $1,000,000 prize the following day at the Lottery’s East Main St. Claim Center in Rochester.
McKay’s win brings to three the number of new Lottery Millionaire checks distributed to Monroe County residents so far this year,

That is exactly what happened to Ron Clark of Richmond. His ticket won the second-highest prize
in the December 14, 2007 Mega Millions drawing.
I got very excited, he told Lottery officials when he claimed his prize. I called my wife and she didn’t believe me.
The winning numbers were 4-7-12-17-30 and the Mega Ball number was 44. His ticket was the only one in Virginia to win $250,000. If the ticket hadn’t missed the Mega Ball number, Mr. Clark would have won a jackpot estimated at $137 million.
He purchased the ticket at Fas Mart, located 2650 New Market Road in Richmond, using numbers he selected at random.

Lotto Jackpot Rolls to $3.5 Million for January 14 th Drawing
TRENTON, NJ (January 11, 2008) Without a winner for last night's drawing, the jackpot for the New Jersey Lottery's Pick 6 Lotto game has rolled to $3.5 million. The next drawing will be held on Monday, January 14.
Acting Executive Director William T. Jourdain announced that none of the 7 74,716 tickets sold for the Thursday, January 10 drawing matched all six numbers drawn. The winning numbers were 09, 13, 14, 26, 31 and 47.
While there was no top prizewinner, Jourdain reported that 6 players won $6,455 in cash prizes in the drawing for correctly picking five numbers. Another 687 players won cash prizes of $62 each for correctly matching four numbers and 13,442 players won $3.00 each for correctly matching three numbers.

While most of the Bay State was battling the white stuff from the first snow storm of the New Year, Michael E. Borowski was collecting the green stuff at Massachusetts Lottery headquarters in Braintree.
Borowski, with his girlfriend Carrie and Chief of Staff Al Grazioso, won $1 million playing $800 Million Spectacular. He received today the first of 20 annuity checks for $50,000 before taxes. The couple plan to buy a home with their prize.
Borowski bought the lucky ticket at Uxbridge Shell on Lackey Dam Road. The service station will receive a $10,000 commission on the sale.
A $10 instant game, $800 Million Spectacular, is among the most popular tickets from the Massachusetts State Lottery. The exciting game offers 80 instant prizes of $1 million and 20 instant prizes of $2.5 million. Overall, the game offers more than 27 million winners.

$600,000 POWER PLAY PRIZE WON!
1/13/2008 Even though the grand prize was not hit Saturday evening, Powerball had some big winners. One ticket in Pennsylvania (1) matched all 5 white ball numbers with the Power Play for an incredible $600,000 cash win! Five other lucky tickets sold in Arizona (2), Louisiana (2), and North Carolina (1) won $200,000 each by matching all 5 white ball numbers!
The jackpot for the Wednesday, January 16th drawing will be $95 million with the cash option at $47.5 million.
The numbers drawn Saturday evening were 23, 39, 43, 47, 53, and the Powerball was 14. The Power Play multiplier was 3.
Twenty-seven tickets matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $10,000. Four additional tickets of that prize level had the Power Play and had the prize multiplied by 3 for a $30,000 cash win! A total of 566,645 tickets across the nation won more than $5.4 million in prizes playing America’s favorite game.
A total of 105,688 winning Powerball tickets multiplied their prize by 3 Saturday. Players were able to do that by purchasing the Power Play option for $1. With Power Play you multiply your Powerball winnings from 2-5 times, except for the jackpot. At the beginning of each drawing a wheel is spun to select that night’s multiplier.
Players purchased $23,946,636 in Powerball and Power Play tickets between Thursday and Saturday night.
