The Mega Millions jackpot is gaining momentum and creating excitement from coast to coast. A total of 868,448 tickets were winners in the Friday, September 8 drawing. Since no ticket matched all six numbers to win the estimated $114 million jackpot, the jackpot for the Tuesday, September 12, 2006 drawing grows to an estimated $135 million.

The winning numbers in Friday’s drawing were: 09-17-34-52-53 and the Mega Ball number was 2.

A total of 11 tickets came within a heartbeat of winning the jackpot, by matching the first five numbers and only missing the Mega Ball number. Those tickets were purchased in California (3), Michigan (5), New Jersey (1) , New York (1) and Texas (1).

This jackpot has been growing since August 1, when Mega Millions had its most recent jackpot winner in New York. The jackpot has now rolled 11 times without a winner. The odds of winning the jackpot are approximately one in 176 million. The odds of winning any of the Mega Millions prizes are approximately 1 in 40.

When Tuesday’s winning numbers were drawn, they turned 623,112 tickets into Mega Millions winners. Each of those tickets matched one of Mega Millions’ nine prize levels. That includes seven tickets that came within a heartbeat of hitting the jackpot. Since no ticket matched all six numbers, the jackpot climbs to an estimated $114 million for the Friday, September 8, 2006 drawing.

9/7/2006 POWERBALL GROWS TO $119 MILLION!

The Powerball jackpot continues to grow. Even though the grand prize was not hit Wednesday evening, 562,420 players across the nation won a total of more than $5.3 million in prizes in America’s favorite Game.

Because no one correctly matched all six numbers the jackpot will grow to an estimated $119 million for Saturday night’s drawing.

The cash option for the Saturday, September 9th drawing will be an estimated $55.8 million.

The numbers drawn Wednesday were 2, 21, 27, 35, 55 and the Powerball was 1. The Power Play multiplier was 4.

Five lucky tickets in Indiana (1), Kansas (1), Missouri (1), New Hampshire (1), and Pennsylvania (1) correctly matched the 5 white numbers and won $200,000.

Thirty-three tickets matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $10,000.

Four additional winners of that prize category also had the Power Play option that multiplied the win 4 times for a total of $40,000!

More than 97,000 winning Powerball players multiplied their prize by 4 Wednesday. They were able to do that by purchasing the Power Play option for one dollar. With Power Play you multiply any winnings from 2-5 times, except for the jackpot. At the beginning of each drawing a wheel is spun to select that night’s multiplier.

Players should carefully check their tickets after every draw. Even if there are no jackpot winners there are always tens of thousands of winners at other prize levels.

Players purchased more than $26.2 million in tickets between Sunday and Wednesday night.

The lotteries sold over $2.8 billion in Powerball tickets in fiscal year 2006. That translates into approximately $800 million for worthwhile state projects.
