Date: June 16, 2006
ATLANTA – With two weeks remaining in the fiscal year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation (GLC) today announced its annual sales have surpassed $3 BILLION for the first time in GLC history.
"Crossing the $3 billion mark in sales is a significant milestone for the Georgia Lottery and the citizens of Georgia, who benefit from every dollar we raise," said GLC President and CEO Margaret DeFrancisco. "As we approach the end of the fiscal year on such a strong note, we remain committed to our mission of maximizing dollars for the HOPE Scholarship and Prekindergarten Programs."
The Georgia Lottery's fiscal year 2006 spans from July 1, 2005 to June 30, 2006. GLC sales for fiscal year 2005 reached a then-record $2.92 billion.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $8.2 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 900,000 students have received HOPE Scholarships, and more than 700,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
