Powerball news for the 9/26/07 lotto

$61.5 MILLION POWERBALL JACKPOT WON!

9/27/2007 (Powerball) One lucky ticket in Kentucky matched all 6 numbers Wednesday evening and walked away with the $61.5 million jackpot. The holder of the winning ticket will now have to decide to either take the 29-year, 30-installment annuity, or take the one time cash “lump sum” amount of $28,558,114.

There were a total of 475,700 additional winning tickets in America’s Game Wednesday evening. Those winners won prizes totaling $6,681,567.

The numbers drawn were 25, 27, 31, 44, 54 and the Powerball was 8. The Power Play multiplier was 2.

Five tickets correctly matched the 5 white numbers and won $200,000. These tickets were sold in Nebraska (1), New Hampshire (1), Oklahoma (1), Pennsylvania (1), and Tennessee (1).

An incredible 196 tickets matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $10,000. A whopping 60 additional players not only matched 4+1, but also wisely purchased the Power Play option for a total win of $20,000!

A total of 94,315 winning Powerball plays were multiplied by 2 Wednesday evening. Winners were able to do so by purchasing the Power Play option for one dollar. With Power Play you can multiply your winnings, except for the jackpot, from 2 to 5 times. At the beginning of each drawing a wheel is spun to select that night’s multiplier.

Players purchased $20,159,745 in Powerball and Power Play tickets between Sunday and Wednesday night.

The jackpot for Saturday, September 29th will be $15 million.

The lotteries sold more than $2.5 billion in Powerball tickets in FY07. That translates into more than $725 million for worthwhile state projects.

Powerball is now played in 29 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
