Pipe fitter hits the jackpot during first day of sales for new $20 Red Sox ticket
Ken J. Swords won $1 million on the Limited Edition World Series Red Sox Instant Ticket just hours after the new game hit the market on Tuesday. Swords said he bought the ticket in memory of his nephew Evan, who recently died from cancer.
He was a huge Red Sox fan and the Jimmy Fund took good care of him, Swords said as he picked up his prize yesterday at Massachusetts Lottery headquarters in Braintree.
That was the karma, added Swords’ girlfriend Maria Metz.
Swords, a pipe fitter from Chicopee, received his first of 20 annuity checks for $50,000 before taxes during his visit. Swords will be the guest of the Boston Red Sox tonight at Fenway Park to celebrate his prize.
He bought the Massachusetts Lotto lucky ticket at New Corner Variety on Memorial Drive in Chicopee,Massachusetts.
The store that sold the winning Massachusett lotto ticket receive a $10,000 commission on the sale.
The Limited Edition World Series Red Sox Instant Ticket just went on sale Tuesday at 7,500 Massachusetts State Lottery agents throughout the state.
