02/13/08 Roanoke,VA., Man Wins $100,000 Lotto On A Crazy Day
When Eric Johnson of Roanoke realized his Cash 5 ticket had won $100,000, he didn’t say anything, but he must have had a difficult time hiding it. A friend came up to him and asked, “What’s wrong with you?”
It’s just a crazy day, he replied.
That was an understatement. Mr. Johnson’s ticket matched all five numbers in the February 6, 2008, Cash 5 night drawing to win the top prize. He purchased the ticket at Sky Mart, located at 3902 Melrose Avenue in Roanoke.
He selected his numbers, 1-3-6-9-27, with the help of his girlfriend. Mr. Johnson told Lottery officials he intends to use his winnings to pay bills.
Cash 5 drawings are held daily at 1:59 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. The chances of winning the $100,000 top prize are 1 in 278,256.
Since 1999, all Virginia Lottery profits have been designated solely to K-12 public school education in the Commonwealth.
